Meet Amy Medina, Seguin Manor Apartments Seguin TX As hard as it may be at times to bid good bye to our residents, we are always delighted when their reason for leaving us is to embark on a newly independent and thriving life. Amy Medina, a former member of the Seguin Manor Apartments (SMA) community, has been since 2010 the Crime Victim's Liaison for the City of Seguin Police Department, reports Melody Kammerer, Services Manager at the property. "We were all so thrilled to see this incredible young woman just moving ahead and becoming the success we knew she'd be!," said Kammerer.
Her income now above the allowable limits for residency, Medina and her daughter moved to a single family home in the area. In her job with the Seguin Police Department, she works with victims of 'people' crimes including family violence and abuse, neglect, robberies and other circumstances that require unique skill sets and composed approach. She directs them to appropriate resources to obtain case-by-case assistance appropriate to their particular needs and in many ways uses similar strategies as she employed when first starting out on her road to taking charge of her own destiny. "I am truly thankful for the support I received at Seguin Manor Apartments," she stated. "It was more than just having affordable housing; I also received so much information about the various assistance opportunities available to me while I attended school and continued to work part-time. I was able to get back on my feet and pursue the career I always wanted." That career is heading in an even more demanding direction as Medina looks toward also completing her first year of basic training with the San Antonio College Police Academy. She told us that ‘her true passion has always been to work in the area of investigations’ and we have no doubt she’ll easily attain this goal as well. All of us at HCS wish her the very best of luck and continued success!
Meet Kimberly Wolf, Poesta Creek Apartments, Beeville TX Currently a resident (but not for long!) of Poesta Creek Apartments, Kimberly Wolf first came to the property a little over a year ago in need of assistance for herself and her then-infant son, Noah. Laid off from the job for which she had been transferred to the area only weeks before the business closed, she was on her own and unsure where to turn.
Kim hopes in the future to go on to complete her RN studies and is currently taking additional classes to prepare for that next big day. She stated, "I am so thankful for the opportunity that Noah and I had to live at Poesta Creek and for all the help we received, especially at the beginning. It was such a relief to be able to get the assistance we needed because I was completely unfamiliar with the area." Pleased for her success yet a little sad to lose such a wonderful resident, Christine and the entire staff at the property wish Kimberly and Noah continued luck and all the best in their new home -- which hopefully won't be so far away that they won't come back to visit from time to time!

Medina came to SMA as a young, single mom caring for her then-infant daughter, Felicity, and just beginning her studies at Texas State University, San Marcos TX. Trying to combine working full-time and the equally demanding pursuit of her bachelor's degree proved to be a daunting task – add that to the challenges of raising a child on her own and Amy found herself in need of some support beyond the provision of a quality living environment. Medina turned to the property staff for assistance and they responded with a variety of referrals to local agencies that allowed her to adjust the balance of her demanding days, complete her education and obtain a degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology in just four years.
Property Manager Christine McGowan was able to move Kimberly in to an apartment within just a short time and provided her with a variety of information for available social and other services. Once she'd gotten her feet on the ground, Kim was quick to find a way to move her life in a different direction and enrolled at Coastal Bend College to become a licensed LVN. Now working full-time at a local nursing home facility, she has reached the point where her income no longer qualifies for affordable housing and she and her son are ready to move out to a larger space.
