HCS complements the quality of life at our affordable housing properties in South Texas with a wide range of Supportive Services for residents as well as nonresidents in surrounding area. Our commitment to enriching the opportunities for personal and professional success include on-site education, job resources, social services, recreational activities and much more. Many of the HCS Community Learning Centers have been designated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of the national Neighborhood Networks program, meeting specified standards of excellence for their operations.
Some of the services and activities available at our HCS affordable housing communities include:
- Adult programs – Computer classes, GED preparation, online employment searches and application assistance, resume preparation, ESL classes, job skills training, financial literacy and instruction, skills classes and recreational hobbies (cooking, sewing, etc.), parenting classes, health fairs and screenings, and a variety of other classes and services depending on the available resources at each property as well as the needs and interests of residents as well as nonresidents.
Youth programs – After school tutoring and homework assistance, youth mentoring, national/industry-sponsored art competitions, Girl Scouts, arts and crafts instruction, computer classes, skills classes and recreational hobby groups, summer camp and other outdoor and team/sports activities, as well as additional youth-centered services.
- Community programs – Year-round seasonal festivals, including holiday celebrations, fundraising activities (for individual property use such as summer camp fees or school supply drives for resident youth), National Night Out, monthly birthday recognitions, Bingo, various all-property outings and day trips, resident board and committee meetings, nutrition assistance and food bank resources, Visiting Nurse services, and other events.
- Case management and social services referrals for a variety of needs.
The cooperative efforts involved in facilitating many of the community activities represents the HCS commitment to helping our residents and nonresidents alike achieve independence and a sense of contributing to their own success. Through mutual respect and united participation, more neighborhoods can be preserved, in more ways than one.
